Washington Crossing 2006

Members of the Union Fire Company & Rescue Squad and thousands of  history buffs from around the country gathered along the historic banks of the Delaware River.  This was the 54th famed re-enactment of the pivital 1776 river crossing from Upper Makefield, P.A. to Hopewell Twp N.J.  General George Washington guided some 2400 solders across the river and marched to Trenton N.J.  The re-enactment took place during the daylight hours.  The actual crossing took place in the middle of the night on December 24, 1776 ending before dawn Christmas morning.  The re-enactors guide 3; 40-foot-long wooden Durham replica boats which were powered by the re-enactors.  Once the 3 boats landed on the "Jersey Side" all the continental troops assembled and had a short ceremony.
